This title provides a strong balance:
“Human-Centred AI” connects directly with responsible, explainable, and teacher-supportive AI.
“Experiential Learning” covers robotics, remote and physical laboratories, project-based learning, and authentic engineering activities.
“Future Engineering Education” keeps the session sufficiently broad for submissions on curricula, pedagogy, assessment, faculty development, and emerging technologies.
Artificial intelligence and emerging digital technologies are creating
new opportunities to transform engineering education. However, effective
educational innovation requires more than simply introducing new tools.
It calls for human-centred approaches that connect intelligent
technologies with sound pedagogy, meaningful experiential learning,
transparent decision-making, and the changing needs of learners and
educators.
This Special Session aims to bring together researchers, engineering
educators, educational technologists, and practitioners to explore how
artificial intelligence and emerging technologies can support more
personalized, engaging, explainable, and practice-oriented engineering
learning. It welcomes contributions ranging from AI-enabled learner
modelling, adaptive assessment, learning analytics, and intelligent
tutoring to robotics education, physical and remote laboratories,
immersive environments, digital twins, and project-based learning. The
session will also examine responsible AI adoption, curriculum
innovation, educator professional development, and rigorous approaches
to evaluating educational impact.
By connecting technological advancement with human-centred design and
experiential pedagogy, the Special Session seeks to facilitate
interdisciplinary exchange and identify practical, scalable, and
evidence-informed approaches to educating future engineers in the AI
era.

Dr. Dongkun Han is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from The University of Hong Kong, and has held research and visiting positions at the Technical University of Munich, the University of Michigan, Stanford University, and the German Institute of Science and Technology in Singapore. His educational research focuses on artificial intelligence in mathematics and general education, e-learning and experiential learning in robotics education, and professional development for engineering educators. He also co-founded the CUHK Smart Garden to promote sustainability education and Sustainable Development Goals through renewable energy and recycling initiatives. Dr. Han has served in various leadership roles for international conferences. His learner-centred teaching has been recognized by the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award, the University Education Award, and multiple faculty and general education teaching awards.
