Citizens of 68 countries and regions can enter Japan visa-free for short-term stays (15 to 90 days depending on the country). This includes travelers from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, most European countries, and others.
Citizens of countries not on the visa exemption list must apply for a visa at a Japanese embassy or consulate before travel. The typical processing time is 1-3 months. Apply early to avoid delays.
